The Einsatzgruppen were the S.S troops that were deployed to help the German armies in invade Poland with the main purpose to assassinate national leaders and round up Jews hiding in the units area. 12,000 Einsatzgruppen all with the same plan to 'resettle' the Jewish people. They would rarely properly dispose of the bodies due to the the areas being over crowded so the Nazi would most likely leave the bodies lay. But its not you'd just find bodies everywhere, although you might, typically the would round up hiding Jews then transport them to a large ditch or pit and shoot them there (Brewer's).
The original method were shootings, the Einsatzgruppen did attempt other methods like putting exhaust fumes into enclosed room which Jews were held. This idea was most likely to lead to the idea of gas chamber camps. The method of camps was proven more efficient than deploying Einsatzgruppen to do the job. By the end of the Einsatzgruppen alone they had killed around 600,000 Jewish people and other Nazi hated ethnics (Oxford).
